Security Services For Massive Theodore Wind Farm Delivering 1.1GW And Powering 500,000 Homes.
Security Services For Massive Theodore Wind Farm – RWE Renewables Australia has released a tender for security services at the proposed Theodore Wind Farm in Central Queensland, with the opportunity covering guarding, patrols, monitoring and surveillance across a large-scale renewable energy development.
Located near Theodore in Banana Shire, the $A3 billion project has received state planning approval and will comprise up to 170 wind turbines generating 1.1Gw along with a battery energy storage facility. Once complete, the development is expected to power around 500,000 Queensland homes.
The security scope includes provision of on-site guards or mobile patrols, alarm monitoring and surveillance, with suppliers required to meet licensing and compliance obligations under relevant security industry regulations.
From an operational perspective, the requirement reflects the scale and duration of the project. Construction is expected to run for up to 4 years, with workforce numbers reaching around 500 personnel at peak. This creates a dynamic site environment with changing access requirements, extended operating hours and a need for consistent control over people, plant and materials.
Security functions are likely to centre on site access control, verification of personnel and vehicles, protection of plant and equipment, and monitoring of temporary and permanent infrastructure across a geographically dispersed site. Surveillance and alarm systems will support incident verification and response, particularly in areas where continuous manned presence may not be practical.
As with many renewable energy projects, the site will combine construction activity with long-term operational infrastructure, requiring a transition from construction-phase security to ongoing asset protection over time.
The project also carries a regional economic focus, with RWE highlighting opportunities for Queensland businesses and workers, alongside a community benefit program that will commence during construction and continue through the operational life of the wind farm. This includes a community benefit fund valued at $500,000 annually.
