Inside Out Security Secures Atlas Storage – Inside Out Security has completed an integrated electronic security solution for the new Atlas Storage self-storage facility at Raceview in Ipswich, with equipment supplied by Micron Alarms.
Completed in May 2026, the project combines individually monitored storage unit doors, IP CCTV, automated gate and roller door control, office intrusion detection, staff duress and Permaconn 4G alarm communications reporting 24/7 to a Grade A1 monitoring centre.
One Input For Every Storage Unit
At the heart of the solution is a Bosch Solution 6000 control panel integrated with the Sentinel Storage Security platform. According to Inside Out Security’s Aaron Duroux, the nature of self-storage created a particular monitoring challenge.
“Self-storage security in Brisbane has a problem most commercial sites do not,” Duroux said. “There are hundreds of individual doors, each one belonging to a different customer, and most of them open and close when nobody from the business is watching.”
“To handle this at Atlas, each external roller door is fitted with its own reed switch, with individual inputs matched to unit numbers. This allows the facility manager and monitoring centre to identify exactly which storage unit has been opened.”
Inside Out Security designed and installed the CCTV, intrusion detection, individual door monitoring, gate control and monitoring communications, then integrated these systems with the Sentinel platform.
IP cameras cover the entry gate, driveways and external unit rows, with recording on site and remote viewing available to the facility manager.
Camera positions and cable routes were established during construction, allowing cabling to be incorporated into the structure rather than surface mounted after completion. Video also provides a means of verifying alarm events before a response is dispatched.
The Bosch Solution 6000 was selected for its input capacity and ability to integrate with the Sentinel platform, while customer access controls operation of the front gate, side roller door and external rollers. An exit keypad and request-to-exit button are also incorporated into the access arrangement.
Office protection comprises reed switches on all 3 office doors and a PIR covering the office floor. A hold-up button installed in a floor box beneath the reception desk provides staff duress, with activation treated as a priority event by the monitoring centre.
Alarm communications are handled by a Permaconn 4G communicator with keyswitch integration. Sirens are programmed according to site event types, with alarm documentation lodged with the Grade A1 monitoring centre.
Installation was undertaken alongside builder, Innovating Rigging, while construction was underway. This demanded the Inside Out Security team to accommodate changes to doors, frames, gates and other elements as work progressed.
“Doors and frames were adjusted several times during the build, which knocked reeds and beams out of alignment,” Duroux said. “We returned to re-align and re-test each time. We would rather do that than sign off on a system that would false alarm once the facility opened.”
Final commissioning included testing the Bosch and Sentinel integration, generating alarms through the integrated system and checking every monitored storage unit door with the Sentinel team.
“With this system the facility manager can see which unit opened and when, and pull up the footage,” Duroux said.
“Meanwhile, the monitoring centre knows the difference between a customer accessing their unit and a door opening when it should not be opening.”
