AIMS Cape Cleveland facility uses an access control system and IP surveillance system to monitor the site. The facility operates from 8am to 4.40pm Monday to Friday with physical security services required 7 days a week outside of these times and during public holidays.

Established in 1972, by the Commonwealth of Australia, the institute's primary function is research for sustainable use and protection of the marine environment. The Institute investigates topics from broad-scale ecology to microbiology.
