BST Installs SiPass And Genetec – BST Australia has delivered a security system upgrade for the University of Adelaide’s Union House redevelopment project, working with builder SHAPE Australia and the university’s infrastructure team.

As part of the redevelopment, BST extended and integrated the existing Siemens SiPass access control system and Genetec Security Center VMS, as well as deploying Axis CCTV cameras across the site. The upgrade forms part of the new function and dining spaces, including the Taikunthi Restaurant, completed in October 2024.

According to BST project manager, Scot Menhennett, the work included installation and system extension, bringing the updated electronic security infrastructure into alignment with the university’s broader security architecture.

Layered upgrades are a clever approach for large institutions looking to preserve existing systems while adopting newer hardware and software capability. In this case, SHAPE Australia managed the building works to an architectural design by Swanbury Penglase.

The Siemens SiPass solution deployed is a scalable access control platform designed for medium to large applications. It supports flexible credential assignment, integrates with intrusion detection and video systems, and allows multi-site configuration. SiPass supports real-time monitoring, detailed audit trails, advanced role-based access rights, and visitor management.

Meanwhile, Genetec Security Center is a unified security platform combining video surveillance, access control, and automatic number plate recognition in a single interface. The VMS component offers high-definition video streaming, multi-site monitoring, forensic search, and AI-based analytics. It supports encrypted communication and detailed permission management and is designed to scale from single buildings to enterprise-wide systems, making it ideal for University of Adelaide.

Edwardstown-based BST Australia is a South Australian security integrator with a client base that includes education facilities such as Adelaide University, Flinders University, and TAFE SA, companies such as OneSteel, Bemax Mining, Haigh’s Chocolates, Bedford Advanced Manufacturing Group and Siemens, and government departments such as DPTI, CSIRO and the Forensic Science Centre.
