Convergint Technical Apprenticeship Program – Global security integrator Convergint Technologies has announced a technical apprenticeship program designed for high school graduates, tech school graduates, veterans and anyone with transferrable skills wishing to join the security industry.
While the program has been established in the US, it would translate very nicely to the Australian market, where new techs are in increasingly short supply.
The training program includes 2-and-a-half weeks of instruction and lab coursework designed to give a base of knowledge. After the introductory course, trainees undertake 50 weeks of hands-on training, utilizing the Pro Learning app to track progress and guide them to full certification in their chosen field.
According to Convergint, the program gives participants turn knowledge and experience into a fulfilling career, while making a meaningful contribution to the team and to the community.
The Technical Apprenticeship Program (TAP) aims to create a strong talent pipeline for the systems integration industry in the US, which continues to face a talent gap with 100,000 job openings according to online recruitment services company Zippia.
Convergint Technical Apprenticeship Program Needed
The course kicked off at Dominguez High School in California’s Compton Unified School District recently. Starting in September, students were introduced to hands-on technical knowledge and skills in the industry, with the curriculum covering safety and basic electric, cable, infrastructure, and systems integration principles.
Dominguez High School teachers initially attended a 2-week training course led by local Convergint employees enabling them to instruct, review, and test students on core skills needed to pursue a career in security systems integration. Throughout the program, teachers will have continued technical and hands-on support from Convergint.
