Currumbin Minerals hardens security – Integrator JB Security and boutique security distributor, Video Security Products, have supplied a bespoke surveillance solution to protect multiple Currumbin Minerals’ sites from vandalism and theft.
Currumbin Minerals is the largest heavy mineral sands processing plant in Australia and its new facility allows processing to run at a higher capacity. At full processing capacity, the plant can turn over 100 tons of sand an hour to supply the critical minerals industry in Australia. Once the sand has been processed and its minerals removed, it is returned to the landscape.
Installing a new security system proved challenging for Currumbin Minerals. An issue faced early in the project was being able to design a security solution where communication could reach all the organisation’s plants due large distances between them, which made wireless links impossible.
The solution was Nx Cloud, part of the Nx Witness VMS, developed by Network Optix, that provides secure connections between sites. Using Nx Cloud, the JB Security team was able to integrate multi-site functionality and create a connection across all plants.
The brain behind this solution is the Nx Witness’ generic event engine, which allows edge-based analytics to trigger an Axis I/O module to trigger a dry contact on the alarm panel to inform the control room of an event in real time. This meant the end user could successfully monitor all plants in one, clear, easy-to-use interface.
A major benefit to the end user is the Nx Witness VMS which allows the client to search for motion across 40 high definition 4K cameras and these areas can be displayed instantly. This gives the site manager complete control.
The new plant, just opened in February 2023, now has a secure security system in place thanks to VSP and JB Security. The end user was receiving an average of three incidents reported a week which has now been significantly reduced to no reports since the installation. The bespoke system VSP designed has reduced crimes by 100 per cent.
This new plant has generated local employment and reduced its carbon footprint by the installation of solar panels and recycling program.
VSP provided a bespoke all-in-one solution incorporating new technologies into this project. JB Security successfully installed products from Hikvision, Axis, D-Link, ION UPS, Lenovo, VSP racks and cable.
