Department Of Defence Seeks Counter Drone Services For Protection Across All Assets.
Department Of Defence Seeks Counter Drone Services – Australia’s Department of Defence has released a tender seeking providers for a Counter Small Uncrewed Aerial Systems (CsUAS) Service Standing Offer Panel, aimed at defending its vast national estate from unauthorised drone activity. This standing panel will support Defence and other whole-of-government entities in mitigating threats posed by drones to people, assets, and infrastructure.
Defence is seeking panel contractors with proven capability across 2 categories. Category 1 covers site-specific threat assessments and solution design. Category 2 involves the provision and operation of fully managed CsUAS services, including sensors, command and control (C2) systems, effectors, support and innovation. Category 1 solutions must be platform-agnostic and may be used to inform competitive selection of Category 2 providers.
The scope of Defence’s facilities encompasses more than 150 diverse locations, including bases, training facilities, shipbuilding yards, and aerodromes, many of which are vast. With the growing accessibility of commercial drones and their potential misuse by foreign intelligence or unauthorised operators, Defence has identified the need to standardise and strengthen detection and mitigation capabilities across the portfolio.
Category 1 services include detailed analysis of each site, factoring in environmental constraints, legal and regulatory implications, infrastructure usage, and operational requirements. From this, contractors are expected to deliver comprehensive threat assessments, solution designs, risk mitigation strategies, and performance metrics, alongside high-level implementation schedules.
Category 2 contractors will implement and maintain CsUAS systems. These may include fixed and mobile detection and mitigation technologies, such as RF sensors, radar, optical tracking, and countermeasures, with operators responsible for integration, reporting, training, and long-term capability development.
The Department’s goal is to provide a coordinated national response to drone threats through managed services that adapt to evolving technology and risk profiles, ensuring readiness and resilience across its estate.
This Department Of Defence Seeks Counter Drone Services tender closes September 29 at 2pm – you can find out more here or read more SEN news here.
