DeWalt 20V Max Atomic Multi-Head Drill For Tight Corners.
DeWalt 20V Max Atomic Multi-Head Drill – When a power tool’s nomenclature includes Max <I>and<I> Atomic, expectations are bound to be high – in this case, the Atomic line is designed for tight spaces, while Max denotes 20V.
DeWalt’s DCD803 20V Max Atomic Multi-Head Drill is a compact multi-position drill designed for confined spaces and angled approaches. The platform is based on DeWalt’s existing compact architecture, with a brushless motor, a 2-speed drive and 16 clutch settings. No-load speeds are 0-450 and 1650rpm, with output rated at 569MWO.
The drill ships with 4 heads: a half-inch chuck, a quarter-inch hex bit holder, a right-angle head and an offset head. These look surprisingly useful for applications where fittings are hard to reach.
All accessories use a drop-in attachment system with steel-rod retention, designed for fast changes and secure engagement. The design supports common screw-driving and light to medium drilling tasks, with DeWalt specifying larger capacities only when using the half-inch chuck.
Weight is 1kg, rising to 1.4kg with a 2.0Ah battery while head length is 4.8in without attachments. Even with accessories fitted, overall length remains compact, supporting cabinetry, fit-off and service work.
This DCD803 sits in the Atomic compact line, offers more power than earlier compact models but according to the maker, delivers control, access and precision rather than high-end drilling performance. This sounds a bit like a sidestep on performance but these are worthy qualities that often apply to security applications, where access is tight and there’s no need for wrist-snapping torque combined with shoulder drooping weight.
The DeWalt 20V Max Atomic Multi-Head is part of the 20V Max platform and compatible with all standard batteries. You can find a De Walt distributor in Australia here or read more SEN news here.
