EasyGate SPT Secures Western Power’s South Metro Depot.

EasyGate SPT Secures Western Power – Western Power has deployed EasyGate SPT speedgates from Entrance Control to secure its $A123M South Metro Depot in Western Australia.

The site, located 30km south of Perth, is a major operations hub for the state’s electricity infrastructure and supports up to 900 staff and 500 vehicles. The decision to use EasyGate SPT follows a prior successful installation at Western Power’s Perth headquarters.

The South Metro Depot, also known as Boyli Mia (Power House), is a key element in Western Power’s infrastructure modernisation, consolidating 4 former sites into a single 26,000-square-metre facility. The complex includes administration, fleet, operations, and maintenance buildings, and features 10,000 square metres of solar panels, 34 electric vehicle chargers, a 1MW battery energy storage system, and a 28-bay drive-through loading zone.

Each of the 4 EasyGate SPT lanes installed at the depot is fitted with 1800mm high glass barriers for enhanced security. Infrared sensor arrays comprising 36 detectors monitor for unauthorised access attempts. The gates are driven by Entrance Control’s Magnetic Direct Drive motor, designed to deliver high reliability during peak periods with minimal maintenance. Safety sensors are integrated to prevent the gates closing on users in a lane.

Entrance Control said the return of Western Power for a second deployment validated the long-term performance of the solution in securing critical infrastructure.

“This depot represents everything we love to see in modern infrastructure – cutting-edge security integrated with environmental responsibility,” said Michael Bystram, general manager at Entrance Control. “Our speedgates are protecting a facility that’s actively contributing to Western Australia’s renewable energy future.”

Builder Australian Building Construction Company won the 2024 Western Australia Excellence in Construction Awards for the Best Industrial Building between $50M and $100M for the depot project – recognising the calibre of both its construction and technology – as well as Entrance Control’s contribution, in SEN’s opinion.
