Eximm Installs Aiphone At Q1 Tower – Eximm Security has upgraded the building intercom and access communications system at Q1 Tower on the Gold Coast, replacing a failing legacy platform with Aiphone’s IX and IXG series IP video intercom solutions.
Completed in 2005 and standing 322.5 metres tall, Q1 Tower manages a constant flow of long-term residents, short-term guests, staff and visitors. Building management required a modern intercom system capable of supporting high traffic volumes, integrating with existing security measures and delivering reliable day-to-day operation. However, the original intercom system had deteriorated to the point where ongoing repairs were no longer viable, driving a full replacement project.
The upgrade project delivers resident and visitor communications, concierge screening and controlled entry across Australia’s tallest building, which houses 526 apartments, a luxury resort and spa across 78 above-ground floors. The new system needed to be installed with minimal disruption, operate intuitively and provide long-term reliability consistent with a premium residential environment.
Q1 Tower selected Aiphone’s IX and IXG series platform with reliability and scalability as core requirements. There are 4 primary building entrances were equipped with IXG-DM7 IP video door stations with 7-inch touchscreen displays and integrated HD cameras. Visitors use the on-screen keypad to call any of the IXG-2C7 tenant stations installed in all 526 residential units, allowing residents to view callers and grant or deny access.
Calls can also be routed to an IXG-MK concierge station at the front desk for additional screening. Meanwhile, a pair of IX-DV single-button video door stations provide direct calling to concierge for staff and tenant convenience. The system was deployed over the existing Q1 Resort network, enabling reuse of existing infrastructure and supporting a staged changeover.
Post-installation, the system is operating across 526 tenant stations, 6 door stations and 1 concierge station without connectivity or performance issues. The platform also provides expansion headroom, supporting up to 9999 tenant stations and 9999 door stations if required in future.

Eximm Security’s project manager, Blake Goodman, said the flexibility of the IX and IXG series supported a seamless transition using the existing network environment, allowing installation challenges to be addressed while maintaining building operations throughout the upgrade.
“The project was executed smoothly, with minimal downtime despite the scale and complexity of the upgrade,” Goodman said.
