Glass Break Sensor False Alarm Issues With Entry Door.

Glass Break Sensor False Alarm – A customer is having trouble with a glass break sensor on a 24-hour zone mounted opposite a glass-panelled entry door.

Every time this glass panelled door shuts firmly the security system goes into alarm, driving the homeowners nuts. What would you recommend?

A: From the point of view of users, taking care closing the door will help in the first instance. It’s also possible to mask a glassbreak sensor with a piece of sticky tape – the sensor will still function but will be less sensitive.

The first consideration for installers would be moving the sensor – it sounds like it’s been installed too close to the glass. A glassbreak sensor can be mounted out to around 6 metres from a protected window. We think between 2.5 and 3 metres is a good distance – check the specifications to be certain. If the sensor is within 1.5 metres of the door it’s too close.

Another option would be to take this sensor off its 24-hour zone. If the zone employed for glassbreak is designated arm away/stay it won’t be active when the front door is being accessed with the system disarmed or during typical exit delays, but will provide protection when the family is away or asleep.
