Security integrator H3C Plus has installed an electronic security solution comprising access control, alarms, automation and video surveillance as part of the upgrade of Wyong Hospital on the Central Coast in NSW, Australia.

Wyong Hospital is a busy regional hospital of approximately 300 beds and is a teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle. The facility’s inpatient services include general medical, general surgical, cardiology, drug and alcohol, mental health and a Level 3 intensive care unit. The redeveloped hospital will have an additional 60 inpatient beds

According to H3C Plus’s Nick Churchill, the most important operational capabilities this system gives the hospital in terms of security and safety are integrated security platform shared between major hospitals within the region.

“Security staff can manage other LHD sites that are connected to the same head end, other sites can manage access control to Wyong as a backup if required,” Churchill explained.

“The Integriti management system runs from a private cloud and is accessible from Wyong as well as other hospitals in the region. Integriti provides full management of access control doors through user and group management capabilities. The system also supports duress button/door alarm notifications.

“On the CCTV side, there’s also integration of CCTV cameras from the Milestone VMS platform, and alarms triggered can automatically alert security staff to issues and display the relevant CCTV footage.”

According to Churchill, the hospital’s IT team managed the deployment of network switches and will ongoing manage the network – this includes integration to shared platform with other sites – while the day to day running of the security systems will be managed by security personnel at Wyong Hospital.

“The particular enhancements delivered by the new system revolve around being able to share the management platform with other hospitals in region, which provides the ability to have security staff rostered across multiple sites to cover each other where required,” Churchill says.
