Runaway Bay Marina, one of Queensland’s largest, required robust infrastructure to restore security, address concerns around unauthorised access, vandalism, and low-light visibility, while navigating the complexity of 90 per cent of its cabling being submerged.

Southport-based In Connect provides commercial and residential access control, CCTV, alarm and intercom solutions for professional security systems setup and installation to customers on the Gold coast, in Brisbane and across the Northern Rivers district of NSW and the In Connect team designed a solution around Hikvision’s all-in-one surveillance platform.

The Runaway Bay Marina system includes more than 32 hybrid 8MP ColorVu cameras installed across the site. These included turret and bullet models equipped with strobe lights, microphones, and motorised lenses, offering comprehensive coverage and excellent performance under poor lighting using Hikvision’s DarkFighter technology.

Meanwhile, video is recorded via a 64-channel Hikvision NVR, with reliable storage on WD Purple Surveillance hard drives. Due to the impossibility of new physical cabling, a wireless point-to-point network was deployed across the site to ensure full connectivity.

The system’s marine-grade stainless steel hardware, including waterproof junction boxes and custom mounts, was selected for long-term durability in a corrosive saltwater environment. In addition to improved image quality and intelligent alerting, the new system supports remote monitoring, simple incident retrieval, and proactive security management.
