MCS Pole-Cam Weathers The Storm With No Failures During Cyclone Alfred.

MCS Pole-Cam Weathers The Storm – MCS Pole-Cam CCTV solutions have successfully weathered Cyclone Alfred, maintaining operation despite extreme winds and heavy rainfall.

According to Brandon Petterson, manager of the Gold Coast Pole-Cam project in Queensland, all equipment performed strongly during the cyclone. Daily status updates confirmed that systems remained online except during brief power outages to wider 4G communications. At the same time, 2 mobile CCTV trailers positioned along the coast sustained no damage, despite being directly exposed to harsh conditions.

“The durability demonstrated during Cyclone Alfred represents the third occasion that MCS equipment has successfully endured severe weather without incident,” Petterson said.

“Pole-Cam, designed specifically for outdoor security applications, features robust engineering to withstand Australia’s extreme weather conditions, including cyclone-strength winds and torrential rain.”

The MCS Pole-Cam system is a semi-permanent surveillance solution installed onto a concrete base with a tilt pole, designed for swift deployment or repositioning via crane truck. The pole-mounted cameras provide HD footage over wide areas, with pole height significantly reducing vulnerability to vandalism or interference.

Pole-Cam systems operate using 400W solar panels paired with lithium battery backup, removing reliance on external power sources. Remote viewing capabilities are provided through 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi connections, enabling operators to monitor live footage from smartphones, tablets, or computers without needing additional network infrastructure.

“The compact form factor requires minimal space, making the pole-cam suitable for both short-term and long-term deployments, including remote or infrastructure-limited locations,” Petterson said.

“Additional counterweighting can enhance stability, particularly in regions exposed to higher wind classifications. Standard installations include a 2400kg cement counterweight, increased to 3800kg in regions classified for higher wind speeds, ensuring stability in adverse weather.”

Petterson said the MCS Pole-Cam system is regularly used by councils, event organisers, and businesses for community safety projects, temporary monitoring requirements, construction site security, event crowd management, traffic monitoring, and infrastructure oversight.

Key features include rapid deployment and relocation, remote monitoring capabilities, robust weather-resistant design, solar-powered autonomy, and secure, elevated camera placement.
