Milestone Pushes Generative AI Into Operational Video Workflows.

Milestone Pushes Generative AI – Milestone Systems has released a suite of generative AI tools aimed at reducing manual workload in video review, incident reporting and compliance, including AI Search, Video Summarisation and Video Anonymisation.

Trust that the data is compliant, trust that the AI is accurate, and trust that these tools will genuinely make operators’ jobs easier – that’s what we’re delivering today,” said Andrew Burnett, chief technology officer, Milestone Systems.

Releases like this target a core operational gap. Many security teams still rely on manual review of footage and ad hoc reporting, while remaining cautious about AI reliability in environments where missed alarms or false positives carry real risk.

Milestone’s approach centres on tightly scoped generative AI, trained on use-case specific video datasets rather than general-purpose models. Burnett said this improves consistency and reduces hallucination risk in security workflows.

AI Search allows operators to query video using natural language, surfacing relevant footage across multiple cameras without manual filtering,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Video Summarisation generates structured incident reports directly from footage, while Video Anonymisation redacts faces and licence plates to support compliance with privacy regulations including GDPR.”

The system is underpinned by a large, anonymised and traceable video dataset, curated from customer environments and tagged across more than 300,000 categories, with models fine-tuned using NVIDIA foundation models.”

According to Burnett, the new tools are designed to operate within existing VMS and VSaaS environments, with options for on-premise deployment in secure or air-gapped systems, reflecting ongoing concerns around data sovereignty and operational control – characteristics likely to appeal to government end users in ANZ.

The plug-in is built on Milestone’s Hafnia Vision Language Model (VLM) trained on 75,000 hours of ethically sourced, real-world video data and running on cloud infrastructure or regional data centres powered by NVIDIA and leveraging the NVIDIA Cosmos Reason VLM.
