Monash Dumps ID Cards In Switch To M-Pass.
Monash Dumps ID Cards – Monash University has dumped ID cards and switched to a digital M-Pass ID.
Monash University worked with Transact Campus and HID Global, industry leaders for campus credentials and mobile access, to offer the new NFC-enabled digital M-Pass.
With NFC-enabled M-Pass added to Apple and Google Wallets, students and staff gain seamless access to the facility using their smartphone or an Apple Watch as a credential.
Peter Marshall, chief operating officer and senior vice-president at Monash University, said it was a proud milestone for the institution.
“Monash University prides itself on the early adoption and development of new, convenient technologies and strives to continuously improve student and staff experiences,” Marshall said.
“We’re proud to be at the forefront of a modern, more efficient way for students and staff to engage with our campus facilities and services.”
To use the digital M-Pass, students and staff present their device to a reader to gain access to the library, gym and shuttle bus services, as well as to pay for printing and photocopying.
iPhone and Apple Watch users who add their mobile M-Pass to Apple Wallet can enable express mode, which allows them to access locations without having to unlock or even wake up their device.

Importantly, neither Apple nor Google knows when or where students use their digital M-Pass, including locations accessed, what they buy with it, where they buy it, or how much they paid.
If a newer iPhone needs to be charged students can still use their device to access campus buildings for up to 5 hours with power reserve.
Josh Teichman, director of digital and Monash Connect at Monash University, said eliminating physical cards makes for a safer, more cost effective and environmentally friendly process.
“Our students and staff are hungry for this type of easy, convenient technology that also offers greater flexibility, a more secure experience, and aligns to our aspirations to be net zero by reducing plastic waste,” Teichmann said.
