ASSA ABLOY Centrios Smart Locking System Combines Smart Locks And App.

ASSA ABLOY Centrios Smart Locking System – Released at ISC West recently, ASSA ABLOY’s Centrios smart locking system allows users to manage access to their business by connecting Centrios smart locks and smart readers to a mobile app.

According to Centrios general manager, Bryan Lieberman, Centrios is a brand and a platform developed within ASSA ABLOY, that leverages ASSA ABLOY’s scale and capacity with a bold new start-up strategy and digital-first, customer-centric approach.

“The small business market is about to undergo the type of transformation in digital access management that the residential market experienced between the early 2000s and now,” Lieberman said.

“Small business owners are busy entrepreneurs who don’t have time to sort through the complexity of the current landscape of access management options. Our channel partners want to offer these business owners a solution that works, is easy to sell, is well supported and helps them grow their businesses.

“We listened very carefully to our customers and designed our business structure, the product, user interfaces, support tools and even our sales strategy to help our customers make smarter decisions about access for their business faster and with confidence. All that hard work comes to fruition with the launch of Centrios at ISC West.”

Users with Centrios locks and Centrios Smart Readers download the iOS or Android app, pick a plan (on Centrios.com) and, after enrolling devices, manage who can access doors to their business and when. The system can also include automated remote software upgrades.

Centrios uses advanced encryption technologies to protect users’ data and has been penetration tested end-to-end by an independent 3rd party testing agency. The system also employs various security measures to ensure that credential and personally identifiable data is protected.

The system combines ASSA ABLOY Centrios Grade 1 cylindrical locks and the IP65-rated Centrios Smart Reader, which allows control of virtually any door with electrified hardware — from double doors to garages.

The Centrios Smart Reader is dust and weather resistant, FCC/IC and ADA compliant, and features 2 outputs and 1 configurable relay (2A capacity), 2 inputs (door position switch and ready to exit), a capacitive touch keypad, along with a bracket, and cover plate.

The reader is a discreet unit with dimensions of 11.43 x 4.44cm that works with virtually any electrified locking device up to 2A, including almost any magnetic lock or door strike, including turnstiles and roller doors (bigger roller doors may require external power).

Centrios Smart Reader is easy to install on a door frame, wall mount, or junction box, requiring only 2 screws and a backplate, and it has an operating temperature range of -40 to 60C. Meanwhile, Centrios Smart Reader Expansion Unit is an optional add-on for a Centrios Smart Reader a, providing extra relays and more wiring options.

Enrolment of Centrios devices is by scanning a QR code with a phone, and you customize device and account settings from the Centrios app. Systems users can unlock or lock doors with a touch of their phone to a Centrios lock or smart reader.

ASSA ABLOY Centrios Smart Lock

With Centrios, business operators can quickly manage scheduled access and retrieve access reporting for employees and visitors across multiple physical sites from their phone or a PC using a Centrios browser.

Balanced between the user and professional installer market, Centrios is a free system that offers businesses an upgrade path to enhanced features and capacities, such as the number of users, door devices, or scheduling capabilities.

Centrios also connects end users with locksmiths, integrators and security professionals through the Centrios Partner Program, which offers partners valuable training content, end user leads, and the ability to manage their own details for representation on the Centrios where-to-buy finder.

“Centrios is more than a lock, more than a smart reader and more than an app,” adds Lieberman. “It’s a business designed from the ground up to serve the access needs of small and growing businesses.

ANZ readers should note the solution is presently only available to the U.S. market – you can learn more about Centrios here or read more SEN news here.

Multi-Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop

Multi-Sensor False Alarm-Resistant Loop
Multi-Sensor False Alarm-Resistant Loop

Multi-Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop Configuration.

Multi-Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop – Is it possible to use multiple PIR sensors on the same zone to create a very false alarm resistant zone?

Yes, we’ve read that it’s possible to use a combination of 4 PIRS to solve certain false alarm issues in tough environments, if the alarm panel managing the loop is equipped with a common negative between zone inputs and power supply.

This is a retro solution in our opinion, but such a circuit virtually ensures there’d be no false alarms caused by false alarm triggers like insects. It does so by employing a parallel circuit that demands 2 or more adjacent PIRs in the zone loop trip before an alarm signal can be activated.

Multi-Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop

Set up properly, sensor combinations including 1 and 4, 1 and 2, and 3 and 4 would be required to go NO/NC simultaneously to trigger a zone alarm. Meanwhile, sensor combinations 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 would not trigger an alarm event.

Multi Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop 1 LR 1
Multi-Sensor False Alarm Resistant Loop 19

You’d need 4-core cable to operate this circuit – if there are isolated zone inputs, you’d use 5 conductor cable to bring in the EOL to the zone’s negative terminal at the panel.

Something that occurs is the relevant sensors need to be covering the same detection angle from different points to activate simultaneously, and this means they’d remain jointly vulnerable to global triggers like birds in flight, wildlife in the detection zone, warm air and bushes moving on hot windy days, etc.

We should point out that we’ve never built this alarm circuit and can’t help feeling that using a high-quality dual technology sensor with an integrated camera might be the more elegant, informative and inexpensive solution.

Excitement In the Air At ISC West, Says Gallagher.

Excitement In the Air At ISC West – Following an eventful ISC West, the Gallagher team says there were key themes and takeaways that emerged out of the flurry of activity on the showroom floor, chief among them an awareness the security industry is evolving beyond traditional boundaries and becoming a mainstream technology integral to all sectors.

“ISC West 2024 had a record number of attendees, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence trade show growth is happening alongside innovative development within our industry,” says Scott Elliott, executive vice president – the Americas.

“As we expand our solutions into new territory, we’re attracting new industries, tech partners, and curious-minded individuals to join us at the table.”

At the Gallagher Security booth, the conversation about industry innovation and expansion was focused on the changing mindset of consumers and the role integrated systems play in facilitating those evolving needs.

“When you talk to someone about their organization and its mission, they never go ‘we’re just like everyone else’ – it’s always ‘here’s how we’re different’, and there’s genuine pride behind those differences,” says Luis Colon, director of sales – US East and Latin America, who spent the bulk of ISC West chatting with many new faces in attendance.

“That’s why I love our system. We give our customers a solid foundation – they don’t have to worry about the basics; like controllers and readers, or the overly complex, like cybersecurity; because we take care of those for them through a single pane of glass.

“With those in place, they’re free to go off and build out the solution their business needs, or to get creative and take their systems in entirely new places,” he says. “That’s real value, and if I had to summarize the theme of what I saw at ISC West this year, that’s the word I’d use.”

Excitement In the Air At ISC West

Melissa Vidakovic, director of marketing – the Americas, takes it one step further and says her key takeaway from ISC West was that customers are eager for what lies ahead.

“There’s always a buzz around ISC West, but this year there was a palpable difference in what lit people up,” Vidakovic said. “You could feel the excitement in the air as we talked about the direction our solutions are heading in. People were dreaming up the possibilities of what they could achieve through our roadmap – it felt like we struck a nerve.”

According to Elliott, that’s because people are catching on to the fact that integrated systems deliver more than just security.

“There’s a lot of business intelligence systems like ours can deliver,” Elliot explains. “Industries like transportation, education, or manufacturing don’t typically extract the type of data we can deliver. I think that’s why our industry is starting to garner more attention than we’ve traditionally seen, and why ISC West attendance is growing.”

Colon says empowering customers to create tailored solutions is the way forward for the security industry.

“It’s not about whether a system is open or closed, rather it’s about a unified approach that creates a solid foundation to open the doors wide for new possibilities,” he says.

“The Gallagher team believes ISC West 2024 paints a picture of an industry on the brink of significant expansion. With security technologies becoming a mainstream aspect of business innovation, the focus shifts toward creating integrated, adaptable solutions that meet the varied needs of all sectors.”
