CriticalArc Bringing Latest SafeZone To SAGE In 3 Weeks!

CriticalArc Bringing Latest SafeZone To SAGE – CriticalArc is bringing the latest version of its powerful SafeZone operational insights solution to Secuity & Government Expo to be held at the Realm Hotel in Canberra November 21 (pre-register here).

With its real-time coordination and response capabilities, SafeZone empowers organisations to handle incidents of any scale swiftly and effectively. Providing operational insights that enhance day-today efficiency and support post-incident analysis to continually improve team performance, the platform is scalable and quick to deploy.

For officer and responder coordination, SafeZone enables first and second-line response teams to take the fastest and most appropriate actions. It allows encrypted information sharing as incidents unfold, and it records events in granular detail for full audit trails, in compliance with local legislation.

SafeZone is also a powerful personal safety duress alert system, whether it’s for students on campus, lone workers in healthcare, individuals travelling, or people with particular vulnerabilities.

For major incident response, SafeZone allows second-by-second team coordination with complete site visibility and control. With more efficient management, SafeZone leverages better results from other systems and resources, from CCTV systems to personnel. SafeZone also allows mass, targeted and tactical communications – in times of major disruption, it provides multiple communication channels security and operations teams can depend on.

SafeZone makes it easy for individuals to access personal safety assistance without having to navigate web portals, telephone lists, or other contact methods, using the straightforward options on their SafeZone app – for example, First Aid, Emergency, or Assistance. This simple choice of three buttons on the home screen can be configured to your institution’s requirements, along with the actions triggered when these buttons are pressed.

SafeZone lets users extend safeguarding and duty of care to individual users wherever they are, including traveling internationally. This makes it possible to verify the locations of individuals who may be caught up in major incidents, keep in touch with them, provide early warning of developing risks, and arrange consular or local support. Many institutions now use this capability as part of insurance-backed safer travel policies.

SafeZone gives incident command teams and front-line officers the situational awareness and visibility they need to respond to every incident more efficiently and effectively. SafeZone also lets users coordinate support from volunteers and second-tier responders who are not part of full-time security or policing teams – for example, qualified first-aiders, fire wardens, and welfare specialists. They have the same visibility and communications tools they use for first-tier responders.

OmniVision Wins Toughest Integration Awards In ASIAL Awards For Excellence.

OmniVision Wins Toughest Integration Awards – Melbourne-based security integrator, OmniVision, has scored wins in 2 of the toughest categories in ASIAL Security Industry Awards for Excellence.

While all categories are hard-fought, the electronic security installation and integrated security solution categories are the most vigorously contested categories of all, with leading installers and integrators pitching their best electronic security applications for consideration each year.

2024 was no exception and once again, OmniVision, which has had wins in both categories over the years, impressed with the scale and complexity of its electronic security applications.

After a good deal of debate among the judging panel, which included SEN’s editor, Omnivision won in the Electronic Security Installation under $500k and Integrated Security Solution over $500k categories, with the judges agreeing Omnivision’s work stood out amid strong competition.

“This recognition reflects the incredible teamwork and support we have from all of the team members involved in these respective projects,” said Omnivision’s managing director, Manoj Jayasuriya.

“As an organisation, these awards show our versatility and excellence in handling complex projects of varying sizes. Thank you to the manufacturers and suppliers who have supported us through these projects and a special mention to ASIAL for organising the event.

“Finally, a big thank you and congratulations to the team at OmniVision, it’s been a great collective effort to be recognized at the highest level.”

Troubleshooting Current Drain

Troubleshooting Current Drain In Alarm And Access Control Systems.

Troubleshooting Current Drain – Current drain can be a major nuisance with alarm systems as it robs systems of the ability to operate properly, lead to either false alarms or inoperability.

When checking current in the circuit connect the meter onto the non-earth supply lead or find the system’s on/off switch and connect your multimeter across this, taking care to use the correct polarity.

Adjust your DMM to high current range. If the system is disarmed you’re likely to measure slightly higher current across the switch than you would if the circuit was under load – you can adjust your test unit downwards for greater accuracy if lower currents are registered.

Should you find any excessive current flow you’ll have found the source of your problem and will know something, somewhere in the circuit is chewing current. Importantly, you’ll also have located a potential point of overheating.

Many installers and technicians will immediately begin carrying out continuity checks at this point but it’s better practice to start with a thorough physical examination of the circuit.

Nothing more may be required than cleaning off connections – check for anything that’s going to lead to a short circuit. A physical examination can be made more easily and accurately using a magnifying glass.

If your search for a physical explanation draws a blank, then it’s time to start continuity testing. You can either employ a dedicated continuity tester or use your DMM set to resistance range (it’s not as effective). The lowest resistance range should be your choice. What you don’t want is for your test equipment to display continuity between 2 points that have a small but still significant resistance between them.

Bear in mind that the use of low resistance ranges is going to employ major test currents. Even a test current of 150-200mA is going to pose a threat to semiconductors and other delicate components, so take care.

Gallagher Wins Double At Australian Security Industry Awards.

Gallagher Wins Double – Gallagher Security is celebrating a double award win at the Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence and the Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs) in Melbourne last week.

Less than 6 months since its release, Gallagher’s Augmented Reality (AR) Training was named Outstanding Security Training Initiative at last night’s OSPAs. Released across Australia in May, AR Training further strengthens the company’s commitment to innovative training initiatives and follows in the footsteps of their Train the Trainer, Virtual Classroom sessions, and online training options, making training even more accessible, regardless of location.

“This award recognises Gallagher’s continued commitment to pushing training boundaries, delivering innovative opportunities for our customers,” said Danielle Mitchell, Gallagher Security training manager Asia Pacific and India, Middle East, and Africa (APAC and IMEA).

“AR training eliminates geographical constraints and logistical delays associated with traditional training methods, increases course availability and frequency, and is open to all attendees, regardless of where they are located, meaning technicians can be trained on demand – further roll out of our AR Training is planned across APAC and IMEA.”

Meanwhile, Gallagher’s next generation controller, the Controller 7000 (C7000), won Product of the Year in the Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence Best Access Control Product Category.

Released in November 2023, the C7000 represents a new generation of Gallagher Security technology that can manage all localised access control, intruder alarms, perimeter security, business automation, and logic needs for organisations.

Streamlined upgrades and advanced cybersecurity, the C7000 gives users an opportunity to leverage their hardware and firmware to build a platform designed for the future.

“This award is testament to everyone involved in bringing the C7000 to market,” said Gallagher Security’s executive vice president for APAC and IMEA, Craig Schutte.

“Gallagher is passionate about pushing cybersecurity to the next level so that we can protect what matters most, and the C7000 really pushes the limits of what can be achieved when products are designed with cyber security baked in right from the beginning.”

Hosted by the Australian Security Industry Association Ltd (ASIAL) and held at Melbourne’s Park Hyatt, the event combined industry awards programs including the Australian Security Medals Awards, under a single event to celebrate excellence and achievement across the security industry.

3G Network Shutdown Begins Running From October 28 Until Monday November 4.

3G Network Shutdown Begins – Australia’s 3G network shutdown began at midnight last night and will run over 7 days through to November 4.

Tasmania is the first state having its 3G network switched off and Telstra says because the state has no shared borders, there’s better control of the process and user experience to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible before techs start powering down the mainland network.

All Telstra’s 3G network in Australia will be shut down by Monday, November 4 and the Telstra team says while the process is progressive it’s comparatively quick – anyone caught short on comms in some overlooked network component needs to act fast over the next few days.

Under a new federal regulation that comes into effect this week, Telstra is legally required to prevent mobile phones that cannot call emergency services (including triple zero) from accessing its network. This includes older 3G handsets, as well as some 4G/5G handsets. If a device is blocked, users will not be able to use that handset for voice or data.

Impacted devices may include 3G and some 4G/5G phones, smartwatches, tablets, in-home personal emergency alarms, EFTPOS terminals, as well as fire or security alarms.

The Telstra Mobile Network is Australia’s largest, with 4G reaching 99.7 per cent of the Australian population and 5G to over 89 per cent, providing a more reliable coverage experience in more places across Australia. Telstra will repurpose its 3G spectrum to enhance this coverage further.

You can see Telstra’s 4G map here or read more SEN news here.
