Queensland Crime Prevention Schools Launching In Ipswich, Rockhampton And Townsville.

Queensland Crime Prevention Schools Launching – The Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support (DYJVS) has announced the upcoming release of a tender seeking providers to deliver ‘Crime Prevention Schools’ across 3 regional Queensland locations: Ipswich, Rockhampton and Townsville.

The $A50 million initiative is part of the Queensland Government’s Making Queensland Safer Plan and is designed to re-engage disengaged youth aged 12 to 17 who are at risk of entering the youth justice system. The 4 school locations Townsville, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Rockhampton. While not directly related to security people, this is a positive initiative the industry should support.

The Crime Prevention Schools will provide a structured and supportive learning environment with a strong focus on educational re-engagement, life skills development, and employment pathway readiness. The targeted youth will be those who have dropped out of mainstream schooling and are assessed as being at significant risk of criminal involvement.

Operating under the Special Assistance School model, the crime prevention schools will deliver a program that provides youths with a stronger engagement with education and employment, secures improvements in wellbeing, resilience and mental health outcomes, fosters stronger family and community supports, delivers wraparound support services in conjunction with the education program, works in partnership with families and communities to build protective factors, supports youths to achieve positive goals and takes into account the specific needs of the local community.

The tender for provision of these schools closes on September 26 and 12pm – security managers and crime prevention specialists can find out more about the Crime Prevention Schools initiative here – there’s more SEN news here.
