SECTECH Camera Shootout, which will be held in conjunction with SecTech Roadshow in May, (pre-register here!) undertook pre-commissioning at Milestone Systems office in Melbourne during the week.

This year there are 2 camera groups – Best Low Light and Best 180-degree Wide Angle – the latter being a form factor that’s enjoying plenty of success in applications where situational awareness is a priority. Managing the shootout again this year will be the Milestone XProtect VMS.

SecTech Camera Shootout will test both groups of cameras through a range of light conditions, including low light and strong backlight, with use of the Rotakin sorting out those cameras prone to motion blur or elevated bit rates.

This year we are looking at wide angle cameras for the first time and it was fascinating during shootout commissioning to see the massive coverage offered by these cameras – even in the confines of the setup room at Milestone, we got a clear sense of what multi-head wide angle cameras bring to the table – huge views with low distortion, face recognition right out the edges and amazing bit rates.

“I really enjoyed last year’s shootout – throughout the year I found myself applying things I learned during the shootout to our own applications – this year is likely to be just as beneficial,” said Milestone’s Tas Maniatis.

“Right from the start, our pre-commissioning showed that improvements in bitrate have continued over the last 12 months – not only for the low light cameras but for these big multi-head wide angle cameras, as well.”

SecTech Roadshow and SecTech Camera Shootout kick off in Melbourne on May 2, then travel to Sydney on May 7, Brisbane on May 9, Adelaide on May 14 and Perth on May 16. This year SecTech Roadshow has more roadies than ever – you’ll see the latest technologies from Genetec, Helios, OSA, SensaTek/Vivotek, Uniview, Dahua Technologies, Hills, Interlogix, Avigilon, Fermax Australia, SCSI, Video Security Products, Pelco, Video Alarm Technologies, Mobotix, Alarmcorp, Salto, BGW Technologies, ICT, Q Security Systems, dormakaba, 2N, Videotec and LSC Security Supplies in your home town, with no travel expenses and minimal down-time.

Pre-register for your city here and we’ll see you there!
