Tasmania Deploys Safety Network With Telstra Motorola.
Tasmania Deploys Safety Network – The Tasmanian Government has announced 8 Tasmanian public safety agencies will transition to the Government Radio Network (TasGRN) provided by Telstra and Motorola Solutions.
The $A763 million network announced in 2020 delivers greater interoperability, increased coverage and encrypted communications for emergency service workers, along with a modern user interface.
Hydro Tasmania, TasNetworks, Parks and Wildlife and Sustainable Timber Tasmania will transfer to TasGRN initially, followed by police, fire and emergency services.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said eight agencies will transition to the Tasmanian Government Radio Network (TasGRN) commencing in July.
“First responders save lives in every corner of Tasmania and they need communications tools to match,” Minister Ellis said.
“Our emergency service workers have highlighted the need for reliable, interoperability in radio communications to support effective responses to emergency situations.

“When our firefighters or police officers are responding to emergency incidents they deserve to have high performing communications equipment to support their safety and the safety of the community,” Ellis said.
TasGRN will also deliver improved mobile phone coverage for all Telstra users in Tasmania, particularly in regional areas, where it will provide a flow-on benefit in electronic security applications, enhancing wireless comms and allowing more effective use of cloud-based technologies.
