WA Police Go Starlink In World First.

WA Police Go Starlink – After a successful 3-month trial Western Australian Police Force will become the first law enforcement agency in the world to switch from traditional comms technologies to Starlink, with the $A8.5 million upgrade applying to 129 regional police stations and 550 vehicles.

WA Police Minister Paul Papalia said police operating in remote locations will now be able to send and receive mission-critical information, and access automatic number plate recognition data and real-time emergency alerts.

According to Papalia, the switch to Starlink means officers will be able to livestream body-worn and vehicle dashboard camera footage to WAPOL’s Perth-based State Operations Command Centre, as well as aircraft and security camera vision.

“Every Western Australian knows how difficult it can sometimes be to find phone and internet coverage in a State the size of WA,” Papalia said.

“The WA Police Force operates in one of the largest geographical police districts in the world and it’s about to have complete communication coverage. This high-tech upgrade will boost the ability of police to solve crimes and coordinate large-scale emergency responses like remote searches for missing people.

“For the first time, officers will have high-speed internet no matter where they are in the State, meaning regional WA police will have the same level of connectivity as their metropolitan colleagues.

“Being able to live stream vehicle dashcam and body-worn camera vision will revolutionise the way our police operate in remote areas.”

WAPOL’s operations are divided into 3 regions and sub-divided into fourteen districts, with 35 metropolitan and 123 regional police stations supporting 7000 officers and 2200 staff.

These numbers suggest all of WAPOL’s stations outside Perth metro are now using Starlink, which is good news for security integrators and installers supporting the state’s regional law enforcement teams with the latest networked security solutions.
