ZeroEyes AI Weapons Detection Identifies Weapons Threats.

ZeroEyes AI Weapons Detection – ZeroEyes is an AI weapons detection platform that identifies threats at first sight to detect weapons before shots are fired, enable faster response times for first responders and help end shootings.

The technology, and others like it, highlight AI’s ability to leverage an existing CCTV solution in a way that significantly increases return on investment without capital expense.

ZeroEyes technology is used by schools in 18 U.S. states and integrates its AI software with an existing surveillance cameras to identify guns in a camera’s field of view, which it said are often brandished prior to being fired.

In the case of ZeroEyes, the security image, stamped with the time and location, is then reviewed by a trained military veteran in a control room to verify the object detected is in fact a gun.

Within about 5 seconds, ZeroEyes will issue an alert to authorities, providing a description and location of the threat — often before any shots are fired, according to CEO and co-founder Mike Lahiff.

The ZeroEyes team uses an intensive process of live testing to create a comprehensive dataset, with thousands of images and videos that allows software engineers to continuously train its AI weapons detection model for improvements.

ZeroEyes technology serves as “a force multiplier” with the goal of getting better information to first responders more quickly, Lahiff said.

ZeroEyes says it has detected “thousands of guns” since launching in 2018, including BB guns and paint guns.

AI technology used this way can seem expensive — it’s $25 monthly per camera, in the case of ZeroEyes. In an application with 200 cameras, that’s $5000 per month if every camera is deploying the technology.

However, for large public surveillance and high security applications, empowering a small number of cameras in areas of highest risk offers worthwhile capability that could be used to trigger crash lockdowns or muster on-site security teams, as well as alerting law enforcement.

A particular advantage of AI like ZeroEyes, is that it detects nothing but guns, so there’s no privacy concern posed by the technology. And the company says using operator verification by staff with significant military experience means ZERO false alarms make it to customers.

ZeroEyes’ Technology partners include NVIDIA, Axis and Hanwha – all respected tech companies with considerable technical expertise.
