What Is The Biggest Security Trend Of 2024?
Biggest Security Trend Of 2024 – Now we are deep into 2024, what is the year’s biggest emerging trend?
There’s a definite trend among manufacturers to empower cameras and other security and environmental sensors to gather data for adjacent AI integrations but alongside this trend is a disconnection between what’s possible and the ability of security integration teams to actually leverage the operational capabilities of AI.
What we’re talking about here is conceptualising and implementing AI possibilities as functional rules that translate data inputs into notifications and reports. There are plenty of questions to juggle. What is possible? Which rules achieve what’s possible? What are the end-to-end pathways for AI rules? How can rules functionally notify management systems and monitoring services and response services?
AI means different things to different users, manufacturers and integrators. It’s a big, sprawling, increasingly dysfunctional term to describe a seething ecosystem with few boundaries. We think in security conversations AI should be sheeted home tightly to operations – security people should eschew nebulous concepts. Of course, when everything’s rendered to data points, the conceptual and operational pieces of string become very long, indeed.
Something that springs to mind when thinking about the AI solutions we’ve met recently was how many of them tend to operate in a proprietary way. The tendency towards proprietary solutions and proprietary partnerships is another noticeable trend in AI. Fully open security products are becoming the exception – and they are mostly hardware devices.
Who will be first to run hard with AI in security applications – will it be end users or will it be security integrators? That’s hard to say with certainty but we suspect it will be the former.
