Kahl Betham To Step Down As Gallagher CEO After 33 Per Cent Year On Year Revenue Increase.

Kahl Betham To Step Down As Gallagher CEO – Gallagher Group CEO and executive director Kahl Betham has announced he will step down from his role at the end of the current financial year on March 31, 2027.

Betham joined Gallagher in 1997 as a software engineer, later leading the global security business from 2015. He was appointed group deputy CEO in 2019 and group CEO in 2021.

Under his leadership, Gallagher has grown to more than 1700 staff globally, serving customers in over 160 countries across its animal management and security divisions. Revenue has doubled over the past 5 years and is expected to exceed NZ$700 million this financial year, with the company targeting revenues of NZ$1 billion.

Betham will remain in the role for the next 9 months, with no change to strategy or operating structure. Gallagher Security and Gallagher Animal Management will continue to be led by their respective chief executives, Mark Junge and Rob Clayton.

Board chair Steve Tucker said Betham had led the company through a period of sustained growth.

“Kahl is a strong leader who has led the company through a period of rapid growth and remarkable outcomes for our people, customers, and business,” Tucker said.

“Under his leadership as Group CEO Gallagher has doubled in size and revenue, and the company was recently awarded Best Large Business and Supreme Winner at the New Zealand International Business Awards.

“The company has an excellent values-led culture, and there’s a real sense of pride in the impact our technology is having globally.”

Betham said the decision followed nearly 30 years with the business.

“It has been an absolute honour and privilege to lead Gallagher, including through some of the tough economic conditions of recent years,” he said.

“We’ve grown NZ$142 million over the past year alone, which is a 33 per cent increase,” Betham said. “It really is thanks to our people globally that we’re seeing this hockey stick growth and swimming against the economic tide.

“While this is a hard decision after almost 30 years with Gallagher and the company in such great shape, it feels like the right time, especially while my children are still young.

“I’m also excited about the new opportunities this opens. Those who know me well will know I’m extremely passionate about building New Zealand’s technology sector, and this move will allow me time to invest in and support some of New Zealand’s up and coming tech companies.

“The business is almost 90 years old and our commitment to innovation means Gallagher is well placed to continue protecting what matters most for customers all around the world.”
