According to Crow’s Vince Robbie, GPRS is faster and less expensive than GSM. He says the new panel comes with a Permaconn monitoring service that can offer 1-hourly or 4-hourly polling, making costs significantly cheaper than 90 second GPRS polling, but far more secure than the once-a-week reporting of digital dialer. Robbie says Permaconn has 70 per cent of the GPRS market in Australia – the company supports the most central stations and has delivered the most SIM cards. Permaconn’s GPRS solution is the only one to employ the big Telstra network. According to Permaconn, it has a managed network and handles its own servers so multiple central station signals don’t all come in via a single ADSL connection.
