SYDNEY’S Downing Centre has gone to tender seeking an upgrade to its video surveillance solution and electronic security systems.

The Downing Centre is a major courthouse complex in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It features state government courts, including the Local Court, the District Court, and a law library known as the Downing Centre Library. The Downing Centre forms part of the Department of Attorney General and Justice and houses court services and sheriff’s offices.

Designed by Arthur Anderson and constructed between 1901 and 1908, the current 8-storey building includes portions of the original building and a classical façade with 2 corner towers. Originally built for Mark Foy’s as a department store, the building was converted for use as Courts in 1985 by Spain & Cosh & Epslin and Ross & Rowe and is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register.

Integrators working at the site are likely to be restricted by heritage requirements and the challenges of working around original facades. Internal lighting at the Downing Centre is generally poor.

The tender closes on March 16. ♦
