CONSUMERS in the U.S. can purchase Honeywell’s self-installed system and Alexa speaker at Lowe’s, Best Buy and Home Depot, as well as on Amazon and from Honeywell’s online store.

The move, which is likely to send shivers through some parts of the global alarm installation market, seems to bow to the inevitable – traditional security manufacturers must compete with new players which engage more directly with their client base when it comes to security and home automation systems.

Honeywell’s base station is integrated with Amazon voice service Alexa, and includes a high-quality speaker and a microphone array for hands-free voice control. The system has a camera base station with an integrated 1080p wide-angle HD camera offer low light performance and a whopping 145-degree view.

The system is reported to include facial recognition with mobile app notifications and is primarily controlled through the Honeywell Home app and can serve as a home automation hub for Z-Wave devices.

The base station can be purchased as a standalone device for $US350. The Honeywell Smart Home Security Starter Kit can be purchased for an additional $100 and includes 2 door/window sensors and 1 key fob. If you go for optional cameras, there’s a cloud storage for a monthly fee of around $150 if paid annually.
