Ajax Systems has released the Curtain Outdoor Mini Jeweller, a compact wireless curtain motion detector designed to protect perimeter openings and narrow zones in both indoor and outdoor environments.
The detector combines PIR sensing with a K-band microwave sensor operating at 24 GHz to deliver dual-technology motion detection while reducing false alarms caused by thermal interference. The device monitors a narrow detection zone up to 5 m, making it suitable for protecting windows, entrances, gates, fences, and other defined intrusion paths.
Installed at a height of around 1 m, the detector provides a horizontal detection angle of 15° and vertical coverage of 100°. Motion detection is optimised for movement speeds between 0.3 and 2.0 m/s, with the lens positioned perpendicular to the expected intrusion path for best performance. Sensitivity can be configured across 3 levels using Ajax mobile applications.
Curtain Outdoor Mini Jeweller incorporates SmartDetect software to analyse motion signals and minimise nuisance alarms. Pet immunity is supported for animals up to 70 cm in height when the detector is installed at the recommended height and configured accordingly. Temperature compensation ensures stable operation across a wide environmental range from −25 °C to +60 °C.
The device communicates with Ajax hubs and range extenders using Jeweller wireless technology, providing two-way encrypted communication and event transmission over distances of up to 1700 m in open space. Data is protected by block encryption with a dynamic key and supported by frequency hopping to resist interference and jamming. Firmware updates are delivered over the air using Ajax Wings communication technology.
A range of anti-sabotage protections are built into the device, including a tamper alarm that triggers if the detector is removed from its mounting surface, device authentication to prevent spoofing, an anti-masking system that detects attempts to block the sensor view, and an accelerometer that reports movement if the unit is disturbed.
The detector operates on 2 pre-installed CR123A batteries with a typical service life of up to 3 years depending on configuration. Nominal operating voltage is 6 V with current consumption ranging from 30 μA in standby to 600 mA at peak operation.
Curtain Outdoor Mini Jeweller is housed in a compact IP55-rated enclosure measuring 145 × 32 × 43 mm and weighing 130 g. The device supports installation using the SmartBracket mounting panel or an included angle mount and is designed for both indoor and outdoor deployment in environments with up to 95 per cent humidity.
