Ajax Releases New EN54 Fire Detection System – Ajax Systems has announced its formal push into the fire market with the launch of the EN54 Line – offering a choice of residential and commercial-grade wireless fire detection and alerting ecosystems to fire safety accredited installers and integrators.

The EN54 system is built around EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller, a fully wireless control and indicating equipment (CIE) unit that manages up to 200 addressable devices and 40 fire zones. EN54 Fire Hub is configured via a 10.1-inch touchscreen, with system status and alarms presented in real time. It comes pre-equipped with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and dual SIM slots, allowing direct connectivity with the Ajax app and monitoring stations, without additional communicators.

Typical Ajax, installation is quick, requiring no enclosure disassembly, while the supplied SmartBracket mount enables simple surface placement. For surface wiring, the optional GlandBox provides lateral cable entry without compromising ingress protection.

Fire devices in the EN54 Line use Jeweller, Wings, and TurboWings wireless protocols, offering secure and redundant communication over distances of up to 1800 metres. For larger or multi-level buildings whose reo construction might challenges wireless communications, the EN54 Fire ReX Jeweller range extender boosts system coverage to 35 square kilometres using up to 5 extenders – that’s serious reach.

System-wide communications are maintained in power outages, with all CIEs and repeaters supporting mains power and EN54-compliant hot-swappable lithium-ion backup batteries with up to 72 hours of autonomy – this all key functionality for life safety systems.

The new fire detectors include EN54-certified smoke and heat models, with and without integrated 85dB sounders. The smoke detectors employ a patented dual-spectrum optical chamber with both blue and infrared LEDs, powered by the HazeFlow 2 algorithm for fast and accurate detection. Heat sensors use dual thermistors and support both fixed and rate-of-rise detection. All detectors are addressable, report their status in real time to Ajax apps, and are powered by pre-installed batteries with up to 5 years’ lifespan.

For occupant alerting, the system includes EN54-certified fire sounders and visual alarm devices (VADs) with a 3-second activation time. Devices can provide audible alerts up to 100 dB with 32 selectable tones and high-visibility red LED strobes for visual warning. Mounting options for all this kit support either walls or ceilings, and battery replacement is fast, tool-free, and does not require enclosure disassembly.

Manual call points, automation I/O modules, and visual alarm verification via MotionCam detectors and Ajax security cameras further expand the system’s capabilities. The I/O modules allow for control of third-party systems like voice evacuation, emergency signage, or door control, even if the CIE goes offline. Neat, too, up to 64 automation scenarios can be programmed via Ajax apps.

Visual alarm verification via Ajax cameras allows fire officers to review alarm images in seconds, reducing false alarms and improving emergency response. Ajax’s latest cameras offer PIR sensors, on-board AI, and true WDR image processing. Image and video are sent instantly to supporting monitoring stations and mobile devices.

Installation across the entire system is designed for speed. Devices are added by scanning QR codes, and all configuration is handled via Ajax mobile or desktop applications using natural language – SEN can attest to the simplicity of Ajax installs and upgrades.

Remote maintenance checks and software updates are supported, and device status is always visible, while system operation remains transparent to installers and users, with automated low battery warnings and status reports supporting system management.

EN54 compliance is integral to the EN54 Line, with certifications covering all relevant parts of the standard including detection (EN 54-5, EN 54-7), alerting (EN 54-3, EN 54-23), control (EN 54-2), and communication (EN 54-25). The system also complies with EN 50131 (Grade 2) for intrusion detection, making it suitable for sites requiring both fire and security integration.
