Armatura Explorer Series EP10C Outdoor Smart Reader Combines IP68 Ratings, IK10 Ratings And AES-256 Encryption.
Armatura Explorer Series EP10C Outdoor Smart Reader – Armatura has released the Explorer Series EP10C, an all-weather, multi-technology smart reader designed specifically for outdoor access control applications where durability, credential flexibility and cybersecurity are critical.
The EP10C is built for operation in harsh environments, combining IP68 water and dust protection with IK10 vandal resistance and high-grade encrypted communications, making it ideal for rugged external applications in industrial or remote locations.
The reader supports both traditional RFID credentials and mobile access using Bluetooth and NFC, enabling mixed-credential deployments without compromising security. Mobile credentials are managed through the Armatura ID app, supporting card-emulation mode, where a phone is presented like a card, and remote mode, where access is confirmed from within the app. Bluetooth read range is configurable up to 10m, allowing proximity-based access where required.
Designed for high-security installations, the EP10C uses OSDP v2.2 secure channel over RS-485 with AES-128 encryption between reader and controller, alongside AES-256 encrypted communication between the reader and mobile devices. Credential data is stored within EAL6+ certified encryption chips, providing protection against replay, interleaving, SPA, DPA, EMA and DEMA attack methods.
Physically, the reader is compact and suited to mullion mounting, with optional single-gang, Asian and European back box compatibility. The housing is manufactured from UL94-V0 and UL746C F1 rated polycarbonate, allowing deployment on fire-rated doors and in high-risk environments. Operating temperature ranges from -30C to 70C, with IP68 certification allowing temporary submersion.
The EP10C supports more than 100 RFID credential types across 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz standards, including MIFARE, DESFire EV1, EV2 and EV3, LEGIC, HID iCLASS and NFC-based mobile credentials. Wiegand and OSDP interfaces allow straightforward integration with existing access control platforms.
Visual and audible indicators are fully configurable via the Armatura Connect mobile app, while tamper detection and RGB LED feedback provide clear local status indication. Power requirements range from 9–24 VDC, with low power draw above 0C and separate power support available for cold-climate deployments.
The EP10C smart reader is certified to CE, FCC, RoHS 3.0, WEEE, UL294 and IEC EN/BS EN 60839 Grade 4 standards, positioning it for government, infrastructure, commercial and high-security perimeter applications.
