Bosch 5100i IR Panoramic: First Impressions

♦ Bosch 5100i IR Panoramic is an IP-66, IK-10 and NEMA 4X rated, cast alloy CCTV camera offering 6MP of resolution (there’s a 12MP option) and all-round IR to match its 360 degree angle of view. This camera has an operating temperature range of -40 to 50C, very compact dimensions of 148 x 70mm and weighs 820g with the base plate.

Features include a wide range of display options, built-in Bosch Intelligent Video Analytics and Audio AI to trigger relevant alerts and quickly retrieve data and a compact, robust design protected against vandalism, weather and dust.

Intelligent tracking allows movement to be followed continuously throughout the full image circle. There is no need to hand off tracking from one camera to another, simplifying movement analysis where depth of field is sufficient for your application.

The system detects, tracks, and analyses objects, and alerts you when predefined alarms are triggered. A smart set of alarm rules makes complex tasks easy and reduces false alarms to a minimum. Moving objects can be classified in 4 different object classes: person, car, bike, truck.

The 5100i IR Panoramic was easy to set up on SEN’s test network. I’d initially thought to cart it out front, but the coverage I got from the officer, which is 4 metres x 15 metres, was sufficiently instructive with this 6MP unit to meet my requirements.

Like other panoramic cameras, the Bosch 5100i IR has a stupendous angle of view, giving other levels of situational awareness. My ‘panomorphic ball’ display covers the office from end to end, there’s nothing missing, though I have cropped the back wall in the big image as it included the clamp of the Magic Arm – this won’t be an issue in the full test.

Colour rendition is excellent, detail is strong, too. I put bits of Ronnie Rotakin about to give a sense of pixel spread – the Ronnie to the right is about 3 metres from the lens, the kitchen door about 9 metres. Management of strong light in the scene from the downlights is excellent, too.

Stand by for the full review of the Bosch 5100i IR 6MP Panoramic camera, coming up in the next issue of SEN.
