Brivo B-DS1-B Door Station – Brivo B-DS1-B Door Station is a hardware-as-a-service device that significantly reduces upfront costs.
This all-in-one reader/video device requires a minimal monthly subscription and set up fee to activate. The unit is easy to install, requires a simple user enrolment process with an employee photo badge for facial recognition – there’s no need to carry a credential.
B-DS1-B unlocks doors using facial authentication and captures video of every access event and users can opt in to use facial authentication of every access event through an entry. The unit also supports Brivo Unified Credential cards and fobs and Brivo Mobile Pass.
There’s also RJ45 supported by authentication and encryption via TLS1.2+ secure communication protocol for OSDP comms with Brivo control panels. Read range is about 1 metre with facial recognition, around 5cm with Brivo Unified Credentials and up to 20cm using Brivo Mobile Pass.

The camera is a ½.7-inch 2MP CMOS sensor offering 1080p resolution with 30ips recording and 15ips playback. Field of view from the 2.5mm F2.0 fixed lens is large at 130 degrees, and camera functions include day/night control, digital noise reduction, gain control for brightness and auto white balance.
Video storage is 30 days in the cloud, 30 days or 4GB cached at the door if offline, with main profile compression of H.264. The unit has an operating temperature range of -20 to 50C, is supported by PoE and OSDP, has a power consumption of 12.95W, a 2A dry output contact, and physical dimensions of 179 x 66 x 39mm.
Audio is handled by a built-in speaker and microphone with echo and noise cancellation for recorded video. This is a tidy little product but it’s the ‘hardware as a service’ idea that attracted our attention. Brivo has been doing hardware as a service for a decade – it’s definitely something for installers to look out for.
