City of Melbourne Seeks LiDAR Crowd Intelligence Solution – City of Melbourne has released an expression of interest (EOI) for the supply of a crowd management intelligence solution to support operations during major public events.
Council is seeking technology capable of delivering real-time, predictive crowd behaviour insights across large-scale venues. While the EOI does not specify hardware, spatial AI solutions based on LiDAR technology are referenced as relevant to the application.
Unlike traditional camera analytics, LiDAR-based systems generate 3D spatial data and are not affected by lighting or visual obstructions, enabling uninterrupted monitoring of movement through complex spaces.
The system is expected to support bottleneck identification, dynamic staff allocation based on crowd density, and proactive emergency response via predictive modelling.
