DroneShield Establishes $A13 Million R&D Facility in Adelaide.
DroneShield Establishes $A13 Million Research Facility – Australian counter-drone developer DroneShield has announced a $13 million investment over 3 years to establish a new counter-drone research and development facility in Adelaide.
The company delivers counter-UAS and electronic warfare solutions based on RF sensing, artificial intelligence, sensor fusion and MIL-SPEC manufacturing. The company is currently increasing its production capacity from $A500 million to $2.4 billion annually by the end of 2026, with expanded R&D and manufacturing underway in the US and Europe – that’s a massive growth spike.
The new Adelaide site will be led by Jeff Wojtiuk, a defence systems engineer with more than 2 decades’ experience in radio frequency design, electronic warfare, and complex systems integration, including senior roles at Lockheed Martin Australia.
The facility will create approximately 20 engineering roles and focus on RF electronics, electronic warfare and systems integration. It forms part of DroneShield’s global R&D expansion, which includes operations in Sydney, Europe, and the US, and follows supercharged growth in international demand for counter-drone solutions that has boosted the company’s shareprice 720 per cent.
Recently the organisation reached another company milestone, surpassing 400 employees globally. Of these, 300 are hardware and software engineers. The company currently has around 100 open positions, which highlights the threat and opportunity posed by drones to infrastructure globally.
Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas, welcomed the investment.
“South Australia is the Defence State and we welcome DroneShield making the choice to conduct research and development here in Adelaide, creating 20 highly skilled engineering roles,” Malinauskas said.
Meanwhile, DroneShield CEO, Oleg Vornik, said the expansion supports the company’s strategic growth in high-technology defence systems.
“South Australia is recognised as a national leader in defence and space industries, with Adelaide home to a highly skilled and experienced workforce,” Vornik said.
“Establishing our first R&D office in Australia outside of our Sydney headquarters – in Adelaide – is a strategic move that supportsthe company’s mission to deliver world-leading counter-drone and EW solutions.
“DroneShield’s growth to 400 employees globally – with the majority of our team being engineers – reflects our commitment to deep technical capability and delivery.”
The company’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Angus Bean, said the new facility is critical to the development of future systems.
“DroneShield’s new R&D facility in Adelaide marks a significant step forward in our commitment to ensuring our technology roadmap is being supported by the best engineering minds nationally,” Bean said.
“Our new facility is critical to accelerating the development of our next-generation counter-drone and EW technologies, while expanding our engineering footprint and supporting critical project development for global customers.”
