Examining Salto Lockdown Functionality: How and Where It Works.

Examining Salto Lockdown Functionality – Salto’s lockdown functionality is designed to enhance security in environments where rapid response to emergencies is critical.

The function allows administrators to instantly secure doors or entire facilities at the push of a button, providing a reliable solution for schools, hospitals, office buildings, and other public spaces.

How Salto Lockdown Works

Salto’s lockdown functionality is activated via either a physical panic button or desktop software. Once triggered, it locks all selected doors in a defined lockdown area, restricting access to authorised personnel only.

The system can be managed through Salto’s Space platform, which allow administrators to configure lockdown scenarios, monitor access points, and control doors in real-time.

During a lockdown situation, those in control can choose from the following:

Close Button: Locks all selected doors in the lockdown area, overriding normal access permissions

Open Button: Unlocks doors in the lockdown area during an emergency

End Button: Returns doors to their normal operating mode once the emergency is over.

According to Raj Doraimanickam, Salto product specialist at LSC, the lockdown functionality is built into Salto’s access control ecosystem.

“This makes it easy to integrate with existing hardware like wireless locks and wall readers,” Doraimanickam says.

“Installers can configure lockdown scenarios through Salto Space, defining which doors are included and how the system responds to activation triggers.”

The system also provides detailed audit trails, logging all access events, including lockdown activations. This data is invaluable for post-incident reviews and compliance purposes, offering administrators full visibility into who accessed which areas and when.

According to David Cooper, Salto product manager at LSC the functionality is designed to be reliable and easy to use.

“Whether it’s activated via a credential, software or a physical button, the lockdown process is straightforward and ensures all access points are secured without delay,” Cooper says.

Key Applications

In schools, the lockdown feature can secure classrooms, hallways, and entry points during emergencies. For example, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Geelong, the system was used to lock down the entire campus during a security incident, preventing intruders from accessing buildings and ensuring staff safety.

Hospitals can use the feature to restrict access to sensitive areas like operating theatres or pharmaceutical storage during critical incidents.

In corporate environments, the lockdown functionality can secure entire floors or sensitive zones, such as server rooms, during emergencies or after hours.

The system is also ideal for public spaces like community centres or government buildings, where rapid lockdown capabilities are essential for managing large crowds during emergencies.
