Britech Security has installed frictionless access control at a state-of-the-art facility for transport and logistics company, Fernhurst.
Fernhurst is a privately-owned cold storage and refrigerated transport provider with a 30-year history and a client list that includes Coles, Woolworths and Heinz. It’s new 7070sqm facility sits on a 16,185 sqm site and includes 388sqm of head office space along with freezer, chiller and blast freezers.
Construction of the new facility provided the business with an opportunity to reassess its security and access control requirements and Fernhurst owner, Graeme O’Brien, said the company realised it needed a state-of-the-art security platform to meet current and rapidly growing needs – not only for security but to increase operational efficiency.
According to O’Brien, managing physical access cards in a business with many contractors and temporary staff had always been a challenge. Lost and unreturned physical credentials issued to drivers presented a risk that required administrator oversight. Importantly, the Fernhurst team was aware of the security benefits biometric credentials provided over traditional proximity technology and saw this major project as the right opportunity to introduce the technology into the business.
Daniel Kennedy’s Britech Security was tasked with finding a solution that could handle Fernhurst’s operational requirements and recommended Inner Range’s Integriti solution. According to Kennedy, Integriti offers a solid integration platform while delivering proven reliability in access controller and security fundamentals.
“Fernhurst’s facility takes full advantage of Integriti’s core functionality with excellent security coverage of access control and intruder detection through the entire facility,” Kennedy said. “To address the issues of physical access cards, Britech installed license plate recognition (LPR) cameras, integrated to Integriti.”
With the system complete, drivers and contractors no longer require physical access cards to enter the site – when a registered vehicle’s license plate number is presented at the gate, the LPR cameras instruct Integriti to open the gate. Suprema Biometric readers now secure the perimeter of the main facility, further reducing the need for physical access cards.
A recently completed integration to Suprema Biometric readers will “further streamline the enrolment and management of biometric credentials”, said Kennedy. “Ongoing integration is just one example of how Inner Range continues to provide value to new and existing customers.”
Meanwhile, O’Brien says that after having the facility and its security solution fully operational for several months, “Integriti has met and exceeded my expectations.”
