Motorola Solutions Acquires Mobile Access Developer, Openpath

Motorola Solutions, the owner of Pelco, IndigoVision and Avigilon, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Openpath Security, a cloud-based mobile access control provider, with solutions designed to replace physical badges with a digital badge stored on a smartphone.

Openpath co-founders James Segil and Alex Kazerani spent 2 years of intensive market research and proptech development before launching their cloud-managed access control startup in 2018 and the terms of this acquisition have not been disclosed.

Based in Los Angeles, the company’s platform focuses on integrated technology to provide frictionless mobile access and scalable cloud-based solutions that can also be integrated with legacy systems. Leveraging the systems integration channel, Openpath’s platform is retrofitted into existing properties across a range of market niches, as well as into new construction.

“Securing businesses around the world has never been more critical,” states Greg Brown, chairman and CEO, Motorola Solutions. “This acquisition enables us to combine the power of video security and access control together, providing unprecedented situational awareness, where every physical entry and exit is authenticated and recorded with access control and video.”

The acquisition is the latest in a series of transactions that Motorola Solutions has completed since acquiring Avigilon in 2018. The company has continued to expand its portfolio with deals for WatchGuard, IndigoVision, Pelco and VaaS International, which makes LPR solutions. Another big recent move for Motorola Solutions was onshoring its manufacturing to Texas.
