New Axis D6210 Air Quality Sensor Overlays Air Quality Onto Live Video Streams.
New Axis D6210 Air Quality Sensor – Axis Communications has announced the release of its AXIS D6210 and D6310 Air Quality Sensors, designed to monitor indoor air quality while integrating with existing Axis IP-based surveillance infrastructure.
The sensors are intended to provide proactive alerts to air quality issues such as vaping and smoking, and to support more efficient management of ventilation and environmental control systems.
The D6210, due for release in the first half of 2025, integrates using Axis’s proprietary portcast technology. This allows the sensor to be installed in-line with existing devices without requiring additional IP addresses, power supply ports, or switch ports.
Once connected, air quality parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, CO₂ concentration, and the presence of particulate matter or volatile organic compounds can be displayed in real time or overlaid onto live video streams. The D6210 also supports event-triggered automation using defined threshold levels.
Meanwhile, the AXIS D6310, expected by the end of 2025, offers identical air quality sensing capabilities but functions as a standalone IP network device. In addition to network connectivity, the D6310 includes a built-in speaker and microphone, multicolour LED indicators, passive infrared motion detection, PoE output, and Axis Audio Analytics. Both sensors are compatible with Axis Camera Application Platform (ACAP) and support integration with AXIS Camera Station and third-party video management software.
Sensor readings include temperature (-10C to 45C, ±0.7 °C), humidity (0 to 100% RH, ±6% RH), CO₂ (up to 40,000 ppm), particulate matter in sizes PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4.0, and PM10.0, VOC index, nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide (NOx) index, and a general air quality index (AQI). The sensors take 1 sample per second and store data every 30 seconds for up to 90 days via the connected Axis device.
The D6210 is intended to be installed between a compatible Axis camera and the network switch or power source, within a 100-metre cable run. It draws power using standard IEEE 802.3af/802.3at PoE and supplies power to the connected camera. It has an integrated multicolour status LED and operates within -10C to 45C and 0–90% relative humidity, non-condensing.
Both models include support for event-triggered notifications, can display air quality overlays on video streams, and allow for automated responses through audio or visual cues. Axis claims the sensors will be especially useful in schools, data centres, public buildings and smart facility environments.
The new Axis D6210 is housed in a polycarbonate casing and weighs 225 grams. It is IK08 and IP-rated, and certified to comply with UL, CE, FCC, and other regulatory standards, and ships with a 5-year warranty.
