New AXIS M5000 PTZ Camera Features 3 Fixed 5MP Image Sensors.
New AXIS M5000 PTZ Camera – Axis Communications has released the AXIS M5000 PTZ camera, designed to deliver comprehensive situational awareness through a combination of panoramic overview and detailed zoom capabilities.
The M5000 features 3 fixed 5 MP sensors delivering continuous 360-degree coverage, supported by a dedicated PTZ camera with a 10x optical zoom and HDTV 1080p resolution. This configuration is ideal for monitoring indoor spaces up to 400 square metres, replacing multiple cameras with a single unit.
The PTZ camera employs a 1/2.8-inch progressive scan RGB CMOS sensor, varifocal lens ranging from 4.7–47mm, and provides autofocus and auto-iris with P-iris control. The 3 overview sensors also utilize 1/2.8-inch progressive scan CMOS sensors with a fixed focal length of 2.39mm, offering horizontal views of 360 degrees and vertical coverage of 93 degrees. Low-light imaging is supported by a removable IR-cut filter, with minimum illumination said to be 0.01 lux in black and white mode for the PTZ sensor, and 0.03 lux for the overview cameras – these are realistic numbers – note that starlight is .002 lux.
Video streaming is provided in H.264, H.265, and Motion JPEG formats, supporting multiple individually configurable streams and Axis Zipstream for optimized bandwidth. Frame rates are 30fps for the PTZ camera and 12fps for the panoramic camera system. Audio support includes 2-way full-duplex communication and various audio encoding options, including AAC-LC and G.711 PCM.
For system security, the M5000 camera integrates comprehensive cybersecurity features including HTTPS encryption, Axis Edge Vault, signed video, and secure keystore, backed by standards such as IEEE 802.1X and IEEE 802.1AE (MACsec). Storage flexibility is enhanced by onboard edge storage via encrypted SD cards or recording directly to NAS.
The unit is IP51-rated – indoor environments – and is powered by PoE IEEE 802.3at Type 2 Class 4 or a DC input (20–28 V DC). Operating temperature ranges from 0C to 40C. In terms of dimensions, camera height is 138mm, diameter is 247mmm and weight is 1.95kg.
