NZSA Seeks Support For Update Of Alarm Standard – New Zealand Security Association (NZSA) seeks industry support for review and update of the AS/NZS 22011.1:2007 standard relating to intruder alarm systems.

According to NZSA’s Gary Morrison, regular reviews of standards relating to electronic security are essential to maintaining relevance and aligning with current technologies and practices.

“Recently, Standards NZ approached the NZSA requesting funding assistance for this review, which covers the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of intruder alarm systems at client premises,” Morrison said.

“The total cost of the review is approximately $NZ24,000 and without underwriting of these costs, New Zealand may be excluded from participating, leaving the standard without adequate local representation.”

Recognising the importance of this standard to the electronic security sector, NZSA has committed to funding 50 per cent of the cost. Meanwhile, Gallagher Security has agreed to contribute a further 25 per cent and NZSA will temporarily underwrite the remaining 25 per cent to ensure Standards NZ can proceed with the review. But the association appeals to the broader electronic security industry for assistance to help meet the 25 per cent it has underwritten.

Security companies interested in contributing towards the cost of reviewing and updating the alarm standard are encouraged to contact Gary Morrison at gary@security.org.nz or Shaayal Sukul at Shaayal.Sukul@mbie.govt.nz for more information.

NZSA represents over 85 per cent of New Zealand’s security industry by revenue, advocating for effective, accountable, and sustainable industry practices. The association’s membership includes sole traders and large multinational companies.
