Optic Appoints Mike Cunningham Managing Director With Focus On AI, Cloud Computing.
Optic Appoints Mike Cunningham Managing Director – Converged ANZ-based security integrator, Optic Security Group, appointed Mike Cunningham managing director.
Cunningham has been involved with Optic Security Group in various leadership roles and as a board member for several years. He has played a key role in the evolution of the group from its consolidation through to its continued success and the development of its cybersecurity and artificial intelligence capabilities.
Cunningham’s appointment coincides with the departure of former Optic Security CEO, Ferzad Bharucha, who had led the Group since January 2023.
“We are immensely grateful for Ferzad’s vision, resilience, and dedication, which have propelled us through a period of tremendous growth and innovation,” said Optic Security Group chair, Francis Galbally.
“Based in Sydney, our new managing director, Mike Cunningham, will provide strategic leadership to the group as it achieves its vision as a world-leader in converged security solutions.”
“This is an exciting next phase in Optic’s growth, and we are confident that Mike will drive a range of initiatives that focuses on revenue and profit growth whilst delivering value to customers and staff.”
An accomplished CEO and board director, Cunningham began his career as a chartered accountant and led high-performing financial services company The IA Group for over 20 years in international markets, before heading Tremar Capital Group.
“It’s an exciting time to be leading Optic Security Group,” Cunningham said. “It’s been a privilege to have been a part of Optic Security Group’s journey and it’s an honour to be leading it as it takes its next steps towards delivering an enhanced suite of converged security solutions.”
“Rapid developments in artificial intelligence, analytics and cloud computing, are enabling game-changing innovations in security technology, yet at the same time organisations’ increasing dependence on data is a vulnerability that malicious actors are exploiting,” he says.
“According to Cunningham, through initiatives such as the OpticIQ lab, which is the company’s upcoming state-of-the-art video analytics and AI testing and training capability, its recently announced partnership with Cyber Resilience Group and appointment of Grant McKechnie as chief security officer, Optic is delivering new levels of trust, protection, and resilience to customers so that they can focus on what they do best.”
“Security has been a laggard industry in the digital revolution,” Cunningham said. “Optic’s team focus is to digitally disrupt what has been accepted by the security market with what we see the digital future can be.”
