Optic Grows Technical Leadership – Optic Security Group has grown and enhanced is technical leadership team with 3 new appointments, including Thinendra Kottegoda, Jobe Rout and Stephen Hamilton.

The creation of a new national engineering manager position and the appointment of senior technicians into leadership roles means trans-Tasman security integrator, Optic Security Group, has significantly bolstered its technical clout.

Thinendra Kottegoda

The newest addition to Optic Security Group’s operations is Thinendra Kottegoda, who takes on the newly established role of national engineering manager.

Based in Melbourne, Kottegoda brings 30 years of international engineering experience to the role, having previously worked for Securitas Australia and MGA Electronic Security. Possessing knowledge spanning the spectrum of electronic security systems, Thinendra has led a wide range of highly technical system integrations over his years of service.

In his new role, Kottegoda will play a pivotal part in fostering internal collaboration, particularly in technical tender submissions, pre-tender technical designs, and Pre-staging Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs). His involvement will also ensure that project installations adhere closely to designs and seamlessly transition into operational readiness.

Jobe Rout

Meanwhile, Jobe Rout has been appointed regional manager Northern Territory & Western Australia, a promotion that is not only testament to his unwavering commitment but also a reflection of the depth of experience, knowledge, and capability of Optic Security Group’s internal talent pool.

Rout’s remarkable career with Optic began in 2009 when he joined as an apprentice installation technician as part of STS (now part of Optic Security Group), transitioning to the Service and Maintenance Division in 2012. In 2016, Rout took on the role of service supervisor and in 2019, was promoted to service & technical manager – Northern Territory.

Throughout his career, Rout has worked with key customers such as NT Police CCTV, Darwin City Council, Airport Development Group Security Systems, Royal Darwin, and Palmerston Regional Hospital Security Systems, and the Department of Home Affairs, among others.

“This internal promotion showcases the incredible talent we have within our ranks,” said Optic Security Group CEO, Ferzad Bharucha. “We’re excited to have Jobe take on this new responsibility, and I’m looking forward to working closely with him to achieve great things together.”

Rout said he was looking forward to the role.

“I see this as just the beginning of a long and rewarding career ahead of me,” he said. “I’m thrilled to work with our teams on a national level and look forward to contributing to our company’s continued success.”

Stephen Hamilton

At the same time, Optic Security Group’s Northern Territory technical leadership has been bolstered by recruiting the highly credentialed Stephen Hamilton to the role of project manager.

To take up his new position, Hamilton has relocated from Dunedin in New Zealand’s South Island where he was branch manager at Advanced Security Group. In addition to his extensive on the tools experience as a security technician, Hamilton holds several sought-after credentials.

One of a small handful of security professionals to hold the Level 6 New Zealand Diploma in Security, Stephen is an ASIS International Board-Certified Physical Security Professional (PSP) and Associate Protection Professional (APP), a PECB Certified ISO 31000 Risk Manager, and an Independent Qualified Person (IQP) (NZ).

“I’m excited to be part of the Darwin team,” Hamilton said, “and I’m very much looking forward to the challenges and successes ahead.”

Meanwhile, Bharucha said the team was thrilled to have Stephen join.

“His move from New Zealand to the Northern Territory highlights the breadth of our Australasian organisation and the opportunities that exist within Optic on both sides of the Tasman,” he said.
