Security and integration specialist Saab Australia has won the award for the Integrated Security Solution (projects above $100,000) category at the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL) Awards.

A third time winner, Saab’s 2021 award acknowledged the company’s advanced technology solution for the 1700-bed Clarence Correctional Centre – the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The assessment panel consisting of 6 independent and highly respected industry experts.

Accepting the award at a virtual award ceremony, Saab’s general manager Civil Solutions, Wayne Agutter said the project was expertly managed and delivered on time and on budget, meeting a number of inherent project challenges and unforeseeable events.

“The sheer scale of this facility was unrivalled, with the facility equal in size to 70 per cent of Sydney’s CBD and including 65 separate buildings within its 3km perimeter,” Agutter said.

“Our OneView security integration platform was key to addressing the size and scale, providing a simple unified user interface incorporating more than 20 subsystems, in excess of 100 virtual servers and 12,000 alarm points across the site.”

The complexities of the project and remote location were compounded by a number of unforeseeable challenges including an unprecedented bushfire season, and the global COVID-19 pandemic – both of which had flow on impacts of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements, resource availability and construction industry shutdowns.

“Despite these challenges, we are very proud to have delivered a state-of-the-art security management system with the highest levels of reliability to enable rapid identification of and response to security incidents,” Agutter said.

“Our solution also met the customer’s requirement of minimising the routine workload of security operations staff through the integration of subsystems and the automation of standard operating procedures.

“Winning this award is a great recognition of the collective efforts of our committed team to push the boundaries and deliver outstanding solutions to our customers, even in the face of unprecedented challenges.”

As the national peak body for security professionals in Australia, ASIAL holds the annual awards to celebrate excellence and innovation in the security industry.
