See i-PRO Security Radar With AI PTZ Integration At SecTech NZ – i-PRO is releasing a new security radar system designed for wide-area detection and automated visual tracking, with the solution to be shown at SecTech NZ on the iPRO NZ stand (register here).

The system combines 60GHz millimetre wave radar with Edge-AI PTZ cameras to deliver detection, classification and tracking across large outdoor environments without reliance on traditional perimeter sensors.

At the detection layer, the radar provides 180-degree horizontal coverage, with detection ranges of up to 100m for vehicles and 70m for people. This allows a single device to cover a relatively large area, reducing the number of sensors required compared with infrared or fence-based systems.

The radar uses phased array and FMCW technologies, enabling it to measure both distance and movement with a high level of precision. These techniques are commonly used in air traffic control and automotive radar systems and allow the platform to distinguish between people, vehicles and other objects.

Because detection is based on radio frequency rather than optics, the system operates in low light and adverse weather, including rain, fog and snow, where camera-only systems are typically challenged.

Once a target is detected, location data is passed directly to Edge-AI PTZ cameras, which automatically slew and zoom to track the object. The integration supports up to 4 PTZ cameras from a single radar without requiring additional server infrastructure.

This creates a closed loop between detection and visual verification. The radar identifies and tracks movement paths, while the cameras provide real-time video confirmation and recording of the event.

The system supports zone-based detection, allowing operators to define specific areas and trigger alerts based on object type and location. Detected targets are displayed as icons on a radar map, giving operators a simplified overview of activity across the monitored area.

An additional function is automated searchlight tracking. When a target is detected, compatible PTZ cameras equipped with white LED illumination can track and light the subject, improving visibility and acting as a deterrent.

From a video management system perspective, the radar integrates with VMS platforms including Milestone, Genetec and VideoInsight, and supports Genetec’s Restricted Security Area module.

This solution is aimed at large, open and often remote environments where conventional detection technologies struggle to provide consistent coverage. Typical applications include power generation sites, data centres, airports and other critical infrastructure.

For integrators, the combination of radar detection and camera tracking provides a way to extend coverage beyond the limits of fixed cameras, while reducing nuisance alarms and maintaining visibility across wide areas – perfect for supporting operations on large and demanding sites.

The i-PRO security radar system will be demonstrated at SecTech NZ, with a focus on integrated detection and tracking across challenging outdoor environments – you can register for your SecTech NZ city here or read more SEN news here!
