Sony will exit the CCTV camera market in a move that will also end its branded camera partnership with Bosch, which began in 2016.

In February, Sony announced that the coronavirus pandemic was impacting its camera production and recommended Sony customers switch to Bosch products.

The market’s appetite for lower prices has seen Japanese manufacturers struggle to compete with Chinese makers for a decade – falling camera prices and reduced margins have led to a reduction in R&D, which in turn has made competition more difficult.

Sony will still have a significant imaging sensor and camera module business. Sony components are regularly used in high-end surveillance products, including from Sony’s branded rivals, ranging from Axis to Hikvision to Bosch.

Bosch will continue to distribute a multisensor camera under the Sony brand.
