SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - JUNE 7, 2015: Star City Casino during Vivid Sydney festival. Vivid Sydney is an outdoor annual cultural event featuring immersive light installations and projections.

STAR CASINO in Sydney will add face recognition technology as part of a $A10 million electronic security upgrade.

Face recognition will be applied to cameras in high risk areas and will be match to a database of known offenders. Star has around 4000 CCTV cameras installed in and around the casino – primarily in gaming areas.

“It will also be incorporated into our customer service where we can recognise customers and welcome them back personally, telling them their favourite drink is waiting at the bar,” the Star’s surveillance chief, Catherine Clark, said.

Along with facial recognition technology, the Star is also getting new door alarms, ID scanners, infra-red night vision cameras and motion sensors.

“Surveillance here is a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation,” Clark said. “On a Saturday night we have 150 people working in our surveillance and security teams.” Ω
