Supply and Install of CCTV on Bathurst and Melville Islands

A QUICK-FIRE tender has been released for the supply and installation of CCTV on Bathurst and Melville Islands off the NT coast to tackle anti-social behaviour and vandalism. The video surveillance solution will cover 11 council facilities.

The CCTV installation is part of a wider programme of security upgrades across the Tiwi Islands with funding delivered under Round 2 of the Coalition’s Safer Communities Fund.

“This is terrific news for Tiwi Island residents who will benefit from the Coalition Government’s continued commitment to keeping Australians safe and secure,” Country Liberals Senator for the Northern Territory, Nigel Scullion said when the security upgrades were announced.

Meanwhile, CLP Candidate for Lingiari, Jacinta Price Price said Tiwi Islands Regional Council will use Safer Communities funding to upgrade security at staff housing and community strategic assets throughout the 3 remote communities of Wurrumiyanga, Pirlangimpi and Milikapiti.

“This project will result in safer living conditions for staff with the installation of security systems, security screens and wire mesh security at 20 Staff houses in Wurrumiyanga, 7 staff houses in Milikapiti and 10 staff houses at Pirlangimpi,” Ms Price said.

“Security systems, lighting, and CCTV will be installed at 11 key community buildings in Wurrumiyanga, Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi to reduce vandalism, break and enters, graffiti and theft at key infrastructure. Key buildings to have security upgraded include the community barge shed, workshop, Council’s head office, childcare and swimming pools.

“CCTV cameras have shown to be an effective crime prevention measure and a valuable investigative tool that provides a deterrence to anti-social behaviour.”

The tender closes on March 8, 2019 at 2pm – contact Superintendent Chris Smith on 0427451735 or at Chris.smith@Tiwiislands.nt.gov.au for more information.
