“Demis was involved in our industry for over 20 years starting when he won a contract to supply PIR’s to the Department of Education’s schools project,” says Graham. “At that stage Demis was living in a van, and together with his brother Terry, against all odds they built the product and supplied the contract. “I met Demis when he wanted to know all about proximity readers. Our conversation led to the local design and manufacture of the UltraProx reader that Sprint sold in great numbers. “Ness Security Products still sells that product,” Graham explains.“Demis was a friend but more importantly he was larger than life. He always had a hare-brained idea to talk about. Most projects failed but he was the sort of person you know would succeed one day and hit on the winner. According to Graham, the Australian security needs peoplelike Demis who don’t look for the difficulties but rather the opportunities. “People who had the privilege of meeting Demis never forgot his vibrant personality. I used to joke with Demis that when he died they would have trouble getting the nails in his coffin, sadly they have,” says Graham.
