Vale Lindsay Brooks, Paul-Tec, ADT, Wormald
♦ Vale Lindsay Brooks, Paul-Tec, ADT, Wormald – Paul-Tec managing director Lindsay Brooks, whose career in the Australian security industry stretches back to the 1970s, passed away recently.
Brooks had managed the Paul-Tec monitoring and alarm installation business since 2005 and prior to this was managing director of ADT Security’s monitoring business, also based at Seven Hills. Founded in 1977, Paul-Tec is one of the real survivors of the Australian alarms business.
Brooks was drawn to electronics early and started working with HMV-EMI in Western Australia in the early 70s then transferred to HMV-EMI Sydney as service manager. He left when the business was sold and joined Wormald as service manager in Sydney in 1979.
Brooks then transferred to Wormald Newcastle as branch manager, before returning to Sydney as Wormald state manager, then being appointed to the role of managing director ADT in the late 1980s, where he stayed until the company was sold.
Alongside his professional career with Paul-Tec, ADT and Wormald, Brooks was also an ASIAL board member and volunteered his time in support of many industry groups over the years.
SEN editor John Adams first met Brooks at HomeBase Blacktown in 1989 when Adams was doing back-to-back 15-hour guard shifts from the front seat of a very small car.
“At the time Lindsay was managing director of the ADT monitoring business and his kind words to an unknown security officer camped near his office 7 nights a week were much appreciated,” Adams said.
Suzette Po-Williams of Central Monitoring Services said it was sad to hear of the passing of another industry great.
“Lindsay worked in the security industry for more than 40 years, volunteering on many industry groups – he always took the time to speak – vale Lindsay Brooks,” Po-Williams said.
Richard Whitehead worked with Brooks from 1979 until the 1990s and the pair enjoyed a strong friendship for many years. Whitehead said he was saddened to hear of Lindsay’s passing.
Allan Seckold of Tactical Power products said it was a shock to hear of Lindsay’s passing.
“I worked alongside Lindsay at ADT for 6 years and found him to be strong family man, and a compassionate, outstanding professional,” Seckold said. “During this time the company experienced tremendous growth under his leadership.
“Vale Lindsay Brooks – gone sailing.”
